This week, I wanted to take a different approach to the newsletter and create a list of things happening around the world of women’s basketball, including a shameless plug of my recent interview with multi-Hall of Famer Cynthia Cooper (sorry, not sorry!). There’s so much buzzing around the W this week, and I figured this was the perfect opportunity to round up some of the biggest storylines, events, and conversations shaping the game right now.
WNBA Legend Cynthia Cooper Joins In Case You Missed It
As the WNBA celebrates its 30th season, Cynthia Cooper joined the In Case You Missed It podcast this week to discuss her new role as an analyst on WNBA on Prime. The four-time champion and two-time league MVP contributes across studio coverage and live game broadcasts, bringing a decorated playing career into the league’s current storytelling space.
“It feels great to come around full circle and be able to tell the stories of the young players,” Cooper said. “It represents a bridge between the sacrifices we made when the WNBA started and the sacrifices players make now to live their dream.”
The WNBA on Prime studio show launched in May ahead of the 2026 season as part of Amazon’s expanded multi-year broadcast deal with the WNBA. In addition to Cooper, Prime features an all-star cast that spans across generations of the game, including former players Candace Parker, Swin Cash, Kara Lawson, Teresa Weatherspoon, Ty Young and current Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum.
For many viewers watching on Prime, Cooper is being introduced as an analyst first, even though her career already places her among the most accomplished players in WNBA history. That perspective comes through in how she breaks down the game for viewers, where she centers the “why” behind what happens on the floor.
“I’ve been in those situations,” she said. “I can explain the evolution and the journey that a player can go through from not having a good game to ending on a great note.”
